Sassa has been quite helpful to many people in the country who have sought for grants ever since it was established.

Most people in the country are poor and rely on Sassa’s handouts to get by, therefore the agency’s funding has been crucial to their survival. Grants from Sassa are often increased as part of national budget talks. Customers can use their vouchers at any of the participating supermarkets or shops that Sassa has partnered with. Sassa has advised its beneficiaries to find alternate means to get the award in light of the long lineups produced by individuals collecting the grant at these various outlets. In order to receive the grant, waiting in line is not required. The Sassa card can be used to make cash withdrawals from the bank, and it can also be used to make purchases at stores. Sassa also announced the monthly distribution dates for the funds at the beginning of the year. The awards are disbursed at irregular intervals.
